Humanization
I got a bone to pick with society. We shun people for doing things we don’t like. But ironically, we do the same. We just take it out on each other. In this age we’re living in, it’s hard to find authenticity. Social media is partly responsible. Also, people overvalue what others may think of them. Most of the time, this thought process is self-imposed. We think others are judging us when that’s not usually the case. At the same time, we are very judgmental - even though this judgement reflects our own habits.
Let’s say I don’t like your outfit, but I choose not to tell you. Someone else could feel the same way, but say to your face they don’t like your outfit. Society may say that was harsh and inappropriate. This person would be judged for telling their truth. But because I chose not to voice my opinion, it’s okay. And there’s many others that would feel like me but would judge the person who voiced their opinion. That’s hypocritical. Now, I believe in being decent. Not all thoughts need to be shared. I just have a problem with self-righteousness - people presenting themselves as if they’re better than due to their choices.
We need to start humanizing each other. As humans, we have many thoughts that circulate, many of which society would deem unacceptable. I was in a content creator meeting where a lady pointed out how we say things that are socially acceptable. In other words, we compromise our integrity to be accepted.
Perhaps if we all started being honest, we would see each other more as human and the world would be a better place. At the end of the day, we’re all just versions of each other. So we’re all a lot alike. If we can understand this, we can have less judgement and more compassion.
